Major Pain

I disappeared. I slept all day and had a major pity party.I looked at my car and saw how dirty it is. My floors need cleaning. The dog needs a bath and a hair cut. The large fibroid in my back area became bothersome and I could not locate the Advil.

But you know what? I will regroup and come back with insight and humor. I promise.

I am Not A Doctor, I Just Like Watching Grey’s Anatomy

Well, the author of the so-called study on Black Women being the most unattractive might lose his teaching position at his London University. All fear the wrath of African-American women. Or as Tyler Perry’s book by Madea succinctly described it, “Don’t Make A Black Woman Take Off Her Earrings!”

During my early days of depression I recall taking St John’s Wort, it did nothing for me. Chinese ginseng Tea, bitter taste, time-consuming. Kava  Kava for anxiety, and Valerian tea for anxiety. They did nothing for me. Please note that I did not take them at once! Please also note that I am not a physician nor play one on T.V. These statements in no way are endorsements for any herbal supplements, so keep this in your depressed or non depressed mind. If you can remember.

Ginseng tablets did work for energy but it gave me a jittery feeling after. Also, acupuncture for my menstrual cramps did work for me the one time I went under the tiny needles placed in strategic locations. I remember saying to my self, this is what it is like to be normal, cramp, and symptom free. I see now why they call menstrual cycles the “curse” and my favorite, “your friend”. That heifer is no friend of mine, she ain’t even a frenemy. But seriously, the one hundred dollars a pop non insurance covering injections were to costly for my budget, so I went on the pill to control my symptoms with extra hormones.

Long, long ago, back in the 90’s, In Style magazine was in its infancy stage and some celeb or flavor of the month diva mentioned that she drank Yerba Mate for energy. I thought, this is a revelation because it was South American. I also thought  it was a revelation because it wasn’t the “I use the astronomical La Mer face cream all over my body and go to the spa weekly” bit that makes me want to hurl a platform shoe at the wall. I tried the yerba tea in mint flavor and loved it. I learned that you shouldn’t drink the tea after five pm because you will NOT sleep that evening.

Those botanical herbs from the rain forest. Gotta love them. Yerba Mate tea can be found in Whole Foods or any health food store. But remember, I am not a doctor, nurse, intern, etc. I just like watching” Grey’s Anatomy”.

He Blinded Me With BS Science

I am sorry gentle readers for my absence. The news has been quite intriguing. evolutionary psychologist  Satoshi Kanazawa  wrote a “scientific article” on how Black Women are considered the least attractive out of all ethnicities. He stated that Black Men were even more attractive than Black Women. Since then, the article has been removed because the server crashed. Cyberspace was on fire with folks heated. Who is this guy?

Well it turns out this ASIAN-American man has a history of saying stupid, controversial things such as, Women are essentially prostitutes, feminists are wrong, attractive couples have more daughters, the rabbit kicked the bucket, I need more cowbells, Ice Cube is a pimp, etc. This scientist with the Kwanzaa Black holiday sounding last name openly courts controversy and magazines allow him to spread his poison to the masses in our wonderful melting pot of American Society.

Unfortunately for Black Women, they get caught up in this firestorm. I see many, but not all, with necks swerving, writing: But “they”, insert group, are always trying to get a tan, butt implants, lip injections, and hair extensions. The super intellectuals will be to inform you that the bustle was created to resemble the Black Female figure after the sensation of the Hottentot Venus. And so on.

Then the Latinas and Whites reply, “Your own men don’t want your ghetto arses” and they proceed to name check every Famous and not so Famous Black Man that has dated outside their race.”

The exchange gets to be very hostile but it does not even solve anything.

Yet it does not even answer the question of  who in Sam Hill allowed this overcompensation for lack of size pseudo scientists to propagate these incendiary ideas. His research methods are flawed and suspect. Who were the people that he questioned? Were they from Caribou, Maine or members of the New Nazi Party? Could they have been people of color who bleach their skin and harbor such self-hatred? How large was your sample and did you ask anybody from the East Side of Detroit or in Burundi or a country where they have Fat Beauty Pageants? Did you use data from plastic surgeons who tweak appearances or just thumb through Marie Claire and People and counted the model and celebrities and then constructed your high fallutin’ bar graphs?

I don’t  know “Mr. Kwanzaa” Quack Social Scientist, perhaps you take your hypothesis from experiments from the 1800’s where the African brain was considered smaller than the European one, especially since this was the time that Africa’s resources were plundered by European empires? Do you discuss how Asians have eye surgery to get a more western look, or during WWII Japanese Women injected their breast with silicone to make their breasts look bigger for American Servicemen? Speaking of  WWII due to racism the atomic bomb was not dropped in Berlin, Germany but….Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japanese Americans were placed in interment camps and German-Americans during the war years either fought in the war or listened to FDR broadcasts… in the comforts of the home.

I could easily post links to phallus size  from where your antecedents come from, based on legitimate scientific study.  They come out on the er, shorter end of the stick. Nevertheless, if I went and methodically investigated your past I could  reveal without a doubt where your hatred comes from. Already,  petitions have gone around denouncing your quackery, thereby decreasing your income streams because I know greed is a major incentive for what you do. Happy Kwanzaa, six months ahead of schedule!!

P.S. The American born Kanazawa’s surname means “marsh of gold.” Nothing in my cursory google research describes anything about his personal life, jus, just stuff like girls liking pink  and Asians lacking creativity. I am not making this up!! He is an equal opportunity bigot who denounces “political correctness”. Marsh of excrement is more like it.

We do not need anyone else to validate our beauty.

Rainy Days, Chasing The Clouds Away

Last week the weather was phenomenal. Beautiful, sunny days, 70 degrees, real springlike. If you live in a climate where there are four seasons, you really appreciate spring. Especially since winter was atrocious on the east coast. I don’t know the polling numbers of folks who believe in global warming/climate change, but the changes in weather has been noted by scientists. Those against theories are certainly adamant and believe it to be a hoax. Nevertheless, companies are trying to go green and there is a whole movement and economy based on sustainables, recycling and protecting the environment.

For me the challenge is to not let the weather affect me. I don’t want to feel like I am in Seattle where it rains frequently and residents are said to be depressed and suicidal. I can’t go there. That’s why I spent some time today on two sites that crack me up: “What Would Thembi Do” and “Aw Hell Naw”. The photos crack me up and usually the topics are on horrendous fashion fails and “coonery”. As a matter of fact, I am going to have to add them to my blog roll. Thembi sounds like a sister I would hang out with, and she just earned her Master’s Degree. Funny people crack me up and especially females, because all too often women focus on their looks and snaring a man. Meanwhile, for some men, the player types are the one that focuses on quantity and not quality. But back to females with a sense of humor…Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph, Aisha Tyler, are hiliarious, and can act, write and produce. Queens of Comedy, i.e., Mo’Nique, Sommore, Wanda Sykes are comical as well, catering to their urban audiences. So, I am not going to let the rain bother me, and appeal to my strong inner diva. (I am still broke as hell) Overcast, dark cloudy days, showers will water my bare patch riddled front lawn. I will look out my windows, after washing them, they are filthy, and envision a green oasis.Rain will not depress me, it will instead invigorate me.

Lazy Saturday Night

I am broke. I have a mailbox full of invites but can’t go nowhere because gas is almost $4.00 a gallon. That won’t get me anywhere at all. But the positive thing is I can work on my writing and my business plans. That, my friends, is a beautiful thing.

I earn one-fourth of my income from three years ago and although still depressed, I am a lot happier. A swift kick in the rear would do me well–I know what has to be done. So I am off of Facebook, refusing to be suckered in by the folks discussing where they are going with their inclusion of liquor brand names, guest lists, dj shout outs and so on.

I need to be on someone’s beach because the ions in the air are so therapeutic.

Let’s Get It Done.

*BTW, “have to”, “need to”, etc are words that cause people angst. So excuse me for these loaded words.

Bible Study

I asked these two women why they were so happy. They replied studying the word of God and knowing that he is a God of love and compassion. He knows what we are going through and all the tribulations of the world. He does not cause the suffering or create it. Faith sustained these lovely sixty plus year old women. They did not care about all the trivial b.s. out there, but were concerned with my happiness and seeing that I understood questions I had about God.

In retrospect, people with relationships with God are more happy, and seem to prosper. They are not bogged by the mundane and persevere.  Hope. Such a small word but filled with possibilities. These lovely women invited me to worship on Sunday at 12:30. Guess where I will be?:)

More News AT Eleven

Newt Gingrich is running as a Republican Candidate for President against President Obama. He referred to President Obama as “The Food Stamp President”. More race baiting. This is kind of old. Due to the recession people were forced to receive food stamps, welfare and unemployment just to survive. Americans wanted to work but there were no jobs available. I believe it was due to the fact that there was something called the  global Great Recession. In previous posts I explained in layman’s terms what caused it, so I won’t repeat myself. The fact is, once you use loaded terms people’s defenses go up. My stress levels increase and I am reminded how dirty politics can be. I despise hypocrites and feel that they are fleecing the public’s pockets to become richer. Double Standards become the norm and real issues do not get solved.

Gingrich led the call for former President Bill Clinton’s impeachment, due to his lying over having an affair with Monica Lewinsky. Meanwhile Gingrich was enjoying his own tawdry affairs and his excuse was “he was working too hard.” He was working too hard alright. Right into the bed of some strumpets.

And what does this phrase “We Need To Take America Back Mean?”  America is the land of opportunity and we supposedly have freedom, but does the aforementioned phrase mean a thinly veiled reference to back from a Black Man who many still believe was not born in the US? Do they mean America that launches wars primarily on people with khaki color skin and take and exploit countries resources? Where the rich and corporations get tax breaks and the poor become poorer? Lynchings and separate water fountains and back of the bus and illegal medical experiments and environmental pollution and counting coloreds as three fifths of a person? I keep hearing talk about children’s futures and grandchildren’s futures but no real talk on Wall Street Reform. What is wrong with making sure that Americans have adequate healthcare instead of  executives at health insurance companies getting massive bonuses? And don’t get me started on oil prices and immigration.

Why do some people of privilege argue that the poor are lazy as if they have the best schools and environment to thrive in? I can go on and on but it saddens me. As the racial and ethnic demographics in the US shift to minority being majority, I shudder to think of what rhetoric and legislation will become prevalent and accepted as gospel and law.

I have two advanced degrees, no criminal background, but people still prejudge me and underestimate my intelligence. Elderly women tighten their purses and bigots devise ways to marginalize me. Some people really think affirmative action is reverse discrimination.

I know whose child I am.

Short News Cycle

For a depressed, borderline personality, anxiety ridden gal, the news is overwhelming today. I get so distracted by the internet it is so hard to keep up. Back in the day it was just the big three networks: ABC, NBC, CBS. Your newscaster  was the trusted authority figure that you were so familiar with. The you had your weekly news shows and if you were lucky the morning and afternoon newspaper. If you were really into current events, you subscribed to Time or Newsweek. And the High Brow People watched PBS. Done.

No Television around? You turned to the radio, where families used to gather around in the evening and be entertained by a charming broadcaster’s smooth delivery and compelling  stories. Dad talked about how folks gathered around to hear the famous Joe Louis fight. His family was one of the few families that owned a radio during this time. The importance of this fight was up there with the US hockey team beating the USSR team during the 1980 Olympics, or Hank Aaron winning his home run title in 1974. (pre enhanced era)

People worked and went about their business of living after tuning into the news. Until……

From Hair To Eternity

While the Press Corps dinner was going on in Washington, D.C., it was later noted that officials kept looking at their Blackberry Phones. The reason was this: “Comb-over” Trump was being lampooned over the birth certificate issue but  the covert operation by the Navy Seals was well underway. They had shot and killed Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind behind the attacks on 9/11. Thousands of Americans were killed after hijacked planes were deliberately flown into North and South towers of the World Trade Building, NYC.

The World Trade Center was targeted because it was the symbol of financial power. One plane landed into the Pentagon building in D.C., killing people who work on defending our country, and another was heading to the White House, but was diverted in a field in PA by brave passengers who heard about the other crashes and fought back against their hijackers.

Obama got Osama. Bin Laden vowed to keep on attacking the US and its allies and was leader of Al Qaeda. He was located in a palace one mile away from the Pakistani Military. Many had thought that he would be hiding out in caves in Afghanistan, but the Millionaire lived right under the noses of a government that the United States gives millions of dollars in aid.

“Deathers” believe that Osama is not really dead and they want to show proof. Still others give credit to George Bush,despite the fact that he had stated that catching Bin Laden was not really a priority. Former President Dick Cheney announced that enhanced interrogation techniques allowed (water boarding) that were outlawed were the real reasons that the murderous villain was caught…Michael Moore stated that Bin Laden deserves a trial like the Nazi Criminals.

Former President Bill Clinton warned George Bush about Bin Laden, along with the FBI and White House Briefings. However, after 9/11, The U. S. invaded Iraq because they thought Hussein had Weapons of Mass destruction. There were none. Haliburton had a major contract in Iraq, and guess who was CEO of this corporation? Dick Cheney. Are you still with me? Wait, I thought we were supposed to go after Bin Laden? We also have troops in Afghanistan. Is it no wonder the US is operating under a trillion-dollar deficit?

This does not include the mortgage industry, financial, and auto industry who received major bailouts. But each where you turn it is Obama’s fault. He can do no right, even as they say, if he found a cure for cancer. Non-supporters say,”Let’s take this country back”. Back from a black man who they second guess all the time because of the color of his skin.

If  one of the most powerful man in the world, bright, and ivy league educated is treated horribly in his own country, how do you think Black women are viewed?

Hair It Is: The Comb-Over

1. Donald Trump does not have the credentials for President.
2. He is a Birther, believing that Pres. Obama was born in Kenya.
3. Trump said he sent a team of investigators to Hawaii and implied that they found something on his birth certificate.
4. President Obama held a press conference, showed the long form of his birth certificate stating that he had  “more important things to do.”
5. Trump bragged that he did what no other person was able to, get him to show his birth certificate. (the short form was already shown in 2008)
6. He is now implying that Obama got into Columbia because of affirmative action. (despite Obama graduating magna cum laude and being elected President of the Harvard Law Review.
7. He refers to African-Americans as “the Blacks” and said that he got along with them. It was later revealed that he was in violation of the “Fair Housing Act”, due to his refusal of renting apartments to Blacks.
8. He is very arrogant and people abroad cannot understand the Birther movement. He has been president almost a full term.
9. Blacks resent this because they know that as a Black you always have to prove yourself, and folks assume you cannot be intelligent.
10. Racism is rearing its ugly head, and it’s used to generate votes by the Teabag Party.
